Kimberly Parker is a writer, singer and solo performance artist. She has loved theatre all of her life and holds a BA in Theatre Arts from Boise State University. As she continued to lose her hearing, which resulted in losing confidence, Kimberly stayed away from the stage for 18 years. She also stopped patronizing theatres due to their lack of accommodations for the hard of hearing. She is now legally deaf. Kimberly’s world expanded exponentially after receiving a cochlear implant in 2012. Upon completing a two year “Peer Mentoring” certificate program at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C., in June, 2013, she knew she wanted to be an advocate for the hard of hearing and the hearing alike, and raise awareness for the invisible epidemic that is hearing loss. She wanted to do it in a creative and unconventional way – an approachable and entertaining way. So she chose theatre as her vehicle for social change. Kimberly wrote, Lost in Sound: A One Woman Play, to engage her audience, connect with them and move them in a way that would challenge them to think, and inspire them to take positive social action. She lives in Poulsbo, WA with her husband of 25 years and their two young adult sons.
