From Shame to Disability Justice and Pride. Travel from the ‘inside’ of disability of silence and shame – to the “out” side – of Disability, Justice, and Pride. Journey to a spiritual place that welcomes us all.
Sandy is retired from a career in education, but very active in disability justice work. Her activism stems from having been born with a rare disability, while acquiring others along the way. Sandy has learned over a lifetime that multiple disability experiences at all stages of life also impact mental health. As a child, she experienced bullying in looking ‘different’ at a time when “nobody talked about it”. This ‘outcast’ experience led her to become a teacher (and education activist). In her retirement, Sandy has been an active participant on several regional and state advisory councils that address broad disability topics. Sandy lives on the sacred ancestral lands of the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe (near what is now called Sequim, WA) and shares a home with several cats, a good friend and a herd of deer eating in the garden.
