ACE Scores, Pandemics and Stubborn Hope

The pandemic has increased the ACE (or Adverse Childhood Experience) score of all the children, some more than others. Kids growing up in bad times or bad situations or both wire differently than the ones who have a “Leave it Beaver” childhood. Is this a disaster or is there hope? As a person with a high ACE score, I can say there is hope.

Katherine Ottaway MD worked in Family Medicine in Jefferson County from 2000 to 2021, when she was knocked out by her fourth bout of pneumonia and needed supplemental oxygen. Since she can’t do Family Medicine now, she continues to write poetry, songs, sing, write a blog, and acquire old books. She hates television and has two children who are now wonderful adults.
