Below is the final report from our interim ministry consulting team comprised of Rev. Eric Posa, Rev. Christine Robinson, and Rev. Nancy Bowen.
Rev. Posa was with us on two occasions – on March 3-4 and April 2-3. His work focused on our history and heritage, and on our mission/vision/covenant.
Rev. Robinson stayed for about a 10 day period in early May. Her work focused on congregational size and governance as well as the state of religion in the US.
Rev. Bowen was with us for a three day period in early June. She worked with the board, the pledge team, and the mission team, and also presented a workshop on emotional systems thinking.
The Board has gone through the report and is considering how best to consider the questions raised and implement the recommendations from the report. This may involve asking various committees to look at issues that come up in the report, or asking the congregation as a whole to do some work. We hope you will take the time to go through the report and consider what it says. A few of the things that the Board has noted so far include our consultants’ view that:
– we criticize each other, and are occasionally rude or even mean to each other;
– we have a plethora of committees/teams;
– we may be leaving some groups out or they may be underserved, e.g. theists;
– no minister will be able to manage the congregation without considerable restructuring to suit our size; and
– we tend to have a superficial understanding of UU principles.
These of course are some of the less positive comments, which present issues that we may want to work on. There is a lot of good about us as well, as you will see. Click here to view the report.
