I was moved by the youth Coming of Age service on Sunday, May 14. It was a beautiful demonstration of the generosity of heart, richness of spirit, integrity, and creativity we have at QUUF when people come together for a common purpose. I felt an open-hearted, positive energy! The mentors and mentees even got a standing ovation! This sort of shared experience is what makes a beloved community – not just the end result but also the time and dedication put in throughout the year.
Being together to create this kind of community – something larger than ourselves – is the heart and soul of this Fellowship. The gift of service is not purely altruistic – there are many benefits to volunteering! Working with others on a team or committee is an opportunity to meet and connect with others, share our talents and interests. This is where I meet most of my friends. Additionally, contributing time and energy by being on various teams gives meaning and purpose to our lives.
We are coming out of a pandemic. Many people have gotten out of the routine of coming to QUUF. Many of us are waiting it out…seeing how it goes… in the meantime, QUUF is struggling. It is struggling financially and – the other side of that coin is service – with volunteerism. I care about QUUF and this community and so I am doubling my efforts. We need everyone to pitch in and share the load. Since the pandemic, many leadership positions are vacant and teams are needing more people to help fulfill their mission. You know the saying: it takes a village. It really does take each and every one of us to contribute to make this Fellowship thrive.
On May 21, in Fellowship Hall after the service, there will be tables set up for people to explore ways they would like to re-engage with QUUF and sign up to be on a team. We need folks to join the new Hospitality and Kitchen team, the fundraising team, as well as coordinators for the Affinity Groups and Covenant Groups, for a couple examples. We have wonderful volunteer opportunities for various skill sets, interests, and time commitments. The 5 Councils and their various teams will be represented. We want to be ready for Fall; let’s start off the new year strong with these open positions filled. For many, it is also a way to get to know our new minister, Rev. Linda. PLEASE come and see what opportunities await you!
Greetings from Vermont! I will be with my new grandson on May 21 and I am wondering if there is any way to post photos or listings of the volunteer positions available. For those of us who are out of town or not at the service that day. I would like to step up, but I don’t know what all the options are. Thank you kindly! JES
