Chalice Lighters
Chalice Lighter Program and the UUA
The UUA: The mission of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is to equip congregations for health and vitality, to support and train lay and professional leaders, and to advance Unitarian Universalist values in the world.
QUUF has been a member of the UUA since 1986, when it joined with 22 charter members. Our budget was $2400. 36 years later we have 434 members and a budget of $603,544. Through those years the UUA has certainly fulfilled their mission for us. Every year staff and congregants attend conferences and workshops and all members are mailed the UU World magazine. The UUA is a wealth of resources.
One innovative program that many of us have been involved in for decades is the Chalice Lighter Program. Chalice Lighters allows individual Unitarian Universalists to make small financial contributions to help other UU congregations in their district with projects, often capital improvements, they otherwise might not be able to afford. There are now nearly 3,000 individual Chalice Lighters in the Pacific Western Region. QUUF received a Chalice Lighter grant twice, for each of our building projects. In exchange, many of us send a very modest contribution each year to other congregations who have particular needs. It is one of the ways we build community with other UUs.
Please consider being a Chalice Lighter. If you sign up or already participate, please let us, your Denominational Affairs co-chairs know, so we can be aware of your connection and generosity to UUism.
